12/21/2017 Officer Elections

Tongue Tamers elected its new officer team. From 1/1 to 6/30/18, Kelly Motakef (President), Robert Acosta (VP Education), Erica Stoll (VP Membership), Stefan Blasig (VP Public Relations), Dave Friedman (Secretary), John Reed (Treasurer), and Justin Espinoza (Sergeant-at-Arms) will be in charge. Congrats, guys, and good luck!

1/20/2018 LACE

Online registration for LACE is open!  LACE will take place at Chapman University in Orange and provide you with informative and entertaining workshops from 8:30 am to 3:10 pm for only $10 (lunch included).  All incoming officers should attend officer training for their respective roles.  If we have all seven elected officers trained, each member will receive a $5 discount at the next LACE in June. In fact, you will benefit from this discount right now, since all of our current officers were trained last summer.

The quality of presenters is generally very high. Just to name a few: Keynote speaker Josephine Lee not only reached the final of the International Speech Contest (aka, World Championships of Public Speaking) in 2016, she finished third place – worldwide!  Daniel Midson-Short (“From Toastmasters to TEDx”) is a three-times semifinalist at the same event. These folks are awesome speakers and you will not be bored!

Pathways

Pathways, Toastmasters International’s new education program, has been rolled out in our local Region 10 on 12/5/2017. Instead of starting with CC and CL manuals as before, club members now have the choice between ten different paths, which gives them the opportunity to customize their Toastmasters learning experience and integrate communication and leadership goals right from the bat.

Congratulations 2016 Club Officers

Congratulations to our new club officers who start their positions on January 1, 2016.

VP Education Stefan Blasig, ACB, CL

Congratulations Tongue Tamers!

Hi Tongue Tamers,

You may already be familiar with the DCP program, but if you are not: DCP stands for Distinguished Club Performance, which is a program run by Toastmasters International and designed to provide a benchmark to measure club performance. In the course of one Toastmasters year (7/1 – 6/30), each club is supposed to met certain goals. If a club reaches 5 of 10 goals and has at least 20 members or a net growth of 5 new members by 6/30, it can call itself Distinguished Club. If it reaches 7 of 10 goals, it can call itself Select Distinguished Club. If it meets 9 of 10 goals, it can call itself President’s Distinguished Club – it does not get any better than that. So how did we do in this competition?

– We have achieved President’s Distinguished every single year since 2010 – that is 6 times in a row.
– This year, we have met 10 of 10 goals – there are 33 clubs in our local Division G and only 4 of them have scored a perfect 10. But none of them did it with as few members as Tongue Tamers!

Our score card is attached for your review. I would like to thank all of you for your commitment and dedication, which have made this remarkable result possible. You have every reason to be proud of this accomplishment and, hopefully, we will do it again next year!

Stefan Blasig

We are now on Yelp

In an effort to increase our club’s visibility on social media, we have now established a presence on Yelp.  Members and visitors are envouraged to following link and post reviews

Please remember that social media only works well if content is shared.  Everyone can do that, should do that – don’t wait for the usual suspects (aka, club officers) to take the lead.  We will soon be on Facebook, Google Plus, and YouTube as well.  Stay tuned and get involved to make our club bigger and better!

Thanks for your help.
